Shepherd – The Call – Facing a New Challenge

January 31, 2006 · Leave a Comment

In the face of New Age and militant Islam there was a new move for unity around the old creeds of Christendom. Hence the Evangelicals and Catholics Together. However there were calls that the Evangelicals were giving up hard-won doctrinal positions.

However, the unity against catholics is not as deep as once thought. There are persistent disputes over the place of works and the Law: Lutherans and Calvinist, the Marrow controversy, the Lordship debate of 1990s.

The debate polarises between antinomianism and legalism. But how do we preach grace while also doing justice to the demands for repentance? The answer is in the covenant.

Shepherd – The Call – Preface

The problem with TULIP is the question of where human responsibility enters in. This can be answered from the perspective of covenant. There are two aspects in answer to the question:

1) What is the relationship between grace and works? Comes out of recent discussions between RCs and Evangelicals.

2) How/why do we evangelise if God is sovereign?
